Del.icio.us rolls out new design

I was posting my first bookmark of the day to del.icio.us when I was stopped in my tracks. I was wondering what caused this speed bump to my otherwise normal bookmarking activities. All was revealed by signing in.

One is able to view their bookmarks in 3 views, title only, title and tags, or title, tags and URLs. You can also see your top 10 populated tags, all your tags andĀ  your bundles. This can be incredibly useful if your wondering what to focus your blog on or what type of websites to comment on.

Its also easier to identify what bookmarks are private by seeing the closed lock icon next to the bookmark.

One may think at first impression that they are taking a cue from digg with the icon and the number of times pagesĀ  have been bookmarked by other people. Although I can’t be sure if there is a clear cut formula to getting on the front page of del.icio.us.

We have to wait until the jury is in if this will change people’s social bookmarking habits.

Testing Out ScribeFire

July 8th, 2008

My new biz dev person (more on them later) recommended that I try out ScribeFire. I had installed it on my laptop as a plugin to FireFox 3.0. The buzz has been positive. I can’t wait to try out all the features including installing video, images and more.

This is just the first post, so stay tuned.

The Feed Grinder continues…

June 24th, 2008

This time, I discovered Feed Informer, which also combines multiple feeds into one. Feed Informer has many options for display including, RSS, PDF, Flash, a Picture and more. The output for HTML via JavaScript was cleaner than that of Yahoo! Pipes.

Here is an example of my digest (from this blog and nextSTEPH) in Flash:

We’ll have to see what else develops.

Rediscovering Yahoo Pipes

June 14th, 2008

A few weeks ago, a client began their second blog. I previously created a iGoogle Widget for them, and in the widget, there is tab for ‘Blog’. Since there is only one field for the RSS field, what’s a blogger to do? Mash the feeds into one. Yahoo Pipes enables your d to do just that. With a Yahoo! account, one can login to Yahoo Pipes and combine multiple feeds into one feed. An example of this is below.

Pipes also added a Getting Started video demo called “Learn How to Build a Pipe in Just a Few Minutes“.

Happy Piping.
