Beat the “Page not Found” Offender Rap

I was clearing out some items from bookmarks folder and ran across some links from a while ago. I visited an apparel store to see if they still have a dress I had my eye on. Aghast, they didn’t have the dress, and they weren’t even courteous about the fact:

Not Found

The requested URL /The-Dress.aspx* was not found on this server.

Apache/2.2.3 (Fedora) Server at* Port 8

(*Names have been changes to protect the guilty!)

Retailers, I know you cannot control which inventory is available at what time. At least as a courtesy, please have a custom 404 error page to help guide your visitors and customers in the right direction. Its not that hard to do, especially if a company creates an e-commerce store, it will take a fraction of the time to create a custom 404 error page.

If you want to know what and where your error pages are, request a SEO Audit. Have a question? Let us know.
